Living with Us
Abound Communities aims to help older Victorians live well in retirement.
Our Commitment to Dementia Friendly Villages
As part of our Vision 2020, supporting people with dementia is of increasing importance for Abound Communities in the context of ageing in place policies, the growing number of people with dementia, and our growing waitlist.
As a leading Victorian retirement living and aged care provider, we are committed to enabling our residents with dementia to continue to have social engagement, access to respite and support options when they need it, and to be able to live independently for as long as possible.
Our Vision 2020 Dementia booklet sets out our plan for making Abound Communities villages dementia friendly.
We excel at supporting residents, whether they live independently, in our assisted living or aged care home, to enjoy a balanced, active, social and healthy life.
The cornerstone of our approach is a continuum of care from independent living through to assisted living, and onto residential home care for our residents.
Our mix of accommodation ensures our residents can stay with us and move between our different services as and when they need them. We provide specialised care and expertise in dementia, palliative and culturally appropriate care for people from non-English speaking backgrounds.
All residents, regardless of their stage in ageing, are involved in planning fun and meaningful activities, such as walks, coffee mornings, and volunteer projects. Our residents and staff develop strong ties with one another.
Each village is a vibrant, welcoming community with services that allow residents to stay independent in their own homes before moving into supported living or residential home accommodation.
Sanctuary is how artist Gillian Coates describes her home at Currie Park, OCAV’s village in Euroa. “When I go to Melbourne and I am heading back to Euroa, I can’t wait to get home to the peacefulness of this place. It is like a sanctuary for me."
