A new President for Abound Communities

Abound Communities is pleased to announce that on 7 December 2022, Carl Maissan was
appointed as our 32nd Chair

Carl has been Treasurer of Abound Communities since 2015. An experienced non-
executive director, CFO, and board adviser, Carl is a Chartered Accountant and a graduate
of the Institute of Company Directors. We congratulate Carl on his new position.
Carl said in a statement: “I’m honoured by the appointment and support my fellow
Councillors gave. I step into the role with Abound in robust financial health led by an
excellent group of Councillors and management. That said, the need for secure, affordable
accommodation – particularly among elder women – remains acute. Abound’s unique model
and community focus are well aligned to these needs, and I’m excited to help the
organisation do everything we can to begin to meet these unmet needs.”

Carl takes over from Kevin Neville, who joined as a member of Council in 1993and in 2003
became President. Under Kevin’s stewardship, Abound substantially grew and renewed its
built accommodation. Kevin has spent the last 29 years adding considerable value and
expertise to our organisation. We are grateful for his service to the organisation and its
community; we wish Kevin and his family all the best.

Operating continuously since 1869, Abound Communities is a not-for-profit organisation
providing affordable accommodation and care to over 500 Victorians across four villages.
Abound provides a continuum of care from independent living, assisted living, and
residential aged care, and operates under a unique means-tested affordable housing model.
We’ve built an identity and strong presence for providing quality housing and care in our
community and with the guidance and support of our Councillors and senior staff, we look to
continue our growth and success.
