Braeside Park apartments in for architecture awards

June 20, 2019

The much-acclaimed Berwick apartments were put up for the prestigious annual awards in program run by the Victorian Chapter of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects in 2000. They received an Order of Merit.

Designed by Allen Kong Architects, the project included 14 assisted living apartments, each with its own individual bed-sitting room, ensuite, kitchenette and storage space.

Allen Kong said that the apartments were designed to complement the existing independent living cottages. Energy efficiency was a major part of the design, as was the need for flexibility to cater for people with varying degrees of mobility and physical ability.

"There is nothing I would change that would make my life any better. I have two loving sons and family and I thank God every day that OCAV took me in when I had nothing," said Jill Dale, Braeside Park resident.
