Call to reverse funding cuts to aged services

OCAV has thrown its support behind the Leading Age Services Australia (Victoria) election campaign, calling on the government to reverse funding cuts to aged care.

June 26, 2016

OCAV has thrown its support behind the Leading Age Services Australia (Victoria) election campaign, calling on the government to reverse funding cuts to aged care.

The theme of the campaign is:

'Reverse the Cuts - Fund the Care Seniors Need and Deserve',
and OCAV is supporting LASA’s efforts to bring aged care services to the forefront of the federal election campaign.

In the days leading up to the July 2 federal election, some OCAV staff and residents may be spotted wearing the LASA - Victoria election t-shirts or badges. As well, LASA - Victoria has written to all Victorian Senators and Federal MPs about the budget cuts, and requested either meetings or written responses to the issues raised.

The essence of the letter is a demand to reverse the $3.1 billion in aged care funding cuts, so that the care seniors need and deserve is delivered. It also calls on all candidates to appeal to the leaders of their respective parties to reverse the cuts.

The LASA website features letter templates and it is encouraging people to write letters also demanding a reversal of budget cuts.

To date LASA Victoria letters have also been published int he media including the Geelong Advertiser and Bendigo Advertiser, and in newspapers in Western Australia.
