Christmas appeal for retro pop up cafe at Liscombe House

Like most of us, the ageing residents of Liscombe House have been holding out for the simple pleasures of life. A coffee and a chat. A chance to listen to some old melodies and remember times gone by. I think they deserve it after the year we’ve all had.
This is why I’m writing to you. I have an exciting idea I’d like you to support - one that will bring hope and community to aged care residents this Christmas time.
Can you help me establish a pop-up retro café? With the generosity of supporters like you, I plan to purchase a coffee machine and cart, a gazebo, some tables and chairs, and a speaker to play old tunes on. Just imagine the kind of festive atmosphere we could create for $10,000.
Here are some of the items your donation could buy:
- $50 could buy coffee cups and plates
- $100 could buy a small table for friends to sit round
- $250 could buy a set of portable speakers to play melodies on
A pop-up café is guaranteed to draw out even the shyest of residents, the ones who don’t like getting involved in activities and usually keep to their rooms. These are the ones I worry about most because research reliably links a lack of social contact to a faster decline in health among older adults. Reminiscing to music on the other hand, brings joy and improves mental health and wellbeing.
Will you donate today and bring the simple pleasures back to vulnerable older people this Christmas?
If you can donate $500 we could purchase enough coffee beans to last a year. And a really generous gift of $1500 would make a significant contribution towards an industrial coffee machine.
Thank you so much for your continued support of our work.
