New look community room at Braeside Park

A $130,000 investment in communal facilities is transforming the community spirit at our Braeside Park village in Berwick.

The community room at Braeside Park has always been a draw card for the 50+ strong community of older people but since its revamp, there’s no keeping the residents away.

The revitalised the state-of-the-art facility, which includes an expanded kitchen, computer workstations and extended outside living, was opened recently by Councillor Louise Berkelmans from the City of Casey.

According to Phillip Wohlers, CEO, the new community room was never just about doubling the space available. Rather, it was about investing strategically in strengthening the existing community spirit at Braeside Park.

“The community room plays a vital role in bringing people together to chat, watch a movie, or to take part in exercise classes, or whatever they want to do. It is a centrepiece of our philosophy to provide a supportive environment that creates a sense of belonging for all our residents,” said Mr Wohlers.

Braeside Park resident and President of the Activities Committee Mary Tasker (link to her story) said the residents were now able to expand the range of activities and have a place to socialise with family, friends and the broader community.

Councillor Berkelmans congratulated OCAV on its commitment to social inclusion.

“The City of Casey recognises the importance of investing in community spaces where residents can come together, meet new people, stay connected with their community and partake in activities, so it’s always great to see other organisations also investing in such projects,” she said.

Local architects Drake Design and builders Rococo Homes were engaged to design and construct the community room.
