OCAV’s CEO Phillip Wohlers was among 20 of Australia’s aged care leaders who were invited to discuss the future of the sector at a round table organised by the National Ageing Research Institute.
The round table looked beyond the current reforms affecting the sector, what has been learned from the Living Longer, Living Better policy platform, and the research that is needed to help the industry deliver this vision.
Mr Wohlers said the discussion was far reaching from the future role of technology in aged care services, to the funding models that will be needed to support person-centred care.
“The challenges are real given the changing demographics of our society, the rising incidence of dementia and living with many different chronic diseases,” Mr Wohlers said.
The session was led by Derek McMillan who has a strong track record in retirement living and aged care service development in his previous position as CEO, Australian Unity.
The outcome of the round table includes a joint paper/position statement with a suite of proposals for the Federal Minister for Ageing.
