There has been a lot of sawing and hammering going on in the Men’s Shed at Leith Park – and all for a good cause.

The Shedders have been making bowling boxes for Liscombe House residents.

Barry Lay, the Men’s Shed President, said the group had been approached to build the boxes to help store the bowls better.

“After a year of not being able to get into the Shed, it was a wonderful opportunity for us to get back into the swing of things,” Barry said.

As a thank you present to the group, Bunnings Eltham presented them with vouchers which, together with funds from the Victorian Men’s Shed Association, has gone towards the purchase of a specialised saw and a vacuum to keep the shed clean.

“We were not expecting the vouchers at all,” Barry said.

“It was a generous gesture from Bunnings, and has allowed us to buy a saw which will get plenty of use.”

The Victorian Men’s Shed Association has supported every eligible men’s shed in Victoria to help members re-emerge strongly as restrictions ease.

“Without this funding and the vouchers, we would not have been able to have purchased the saw. We welcome the practical support from the Government,” Barry said.
